Cryptocurrency has gained traction with a few world governments, and many places these days accept it as a legitimate currency for processing day-to-day transactions. It was only a matter of time before online gigs started making cryptocurrency payments.
Blockchain’s decentralized technology makes it easier to organize, manage and compensate freelancers using digital employment contracts. While the gig economy has yet to significantly shift to cryptocurrency payments, a few legitimate online freelance gig portals are driving this adoption. Here is an overview of some of these portals and how they work.
Founded by Australian blockchain company Chrono.tech, LaborX is a global online marketplace that hosts freelance jobs, short-term gigs, and permanent job postings that offer payment in cryptocurrency. Built on the Ethereum blockchain, clients and freelancers can enter into smart contract agreements to ensure smooth payment and labor protection.
You must register with an email, whether as a freelancer or as an employer. The platform is free to use, with a standard commission of 5% per gig for freelancers and 1% per gig for clients. Gigs are sorted into categories such as Admin, Legal, Translation, etc.
Premium membership offers many benefits, but it’s not as easy as swiping a card. You need to lock TIME tokens into TimeWarp smart contracts. This requires you to visit Pools, choose your underlying blockchain, etc. The idea is to increase crypto adoption, provide a channel for freelancers to work securely online, and increase usage of Chrono.tech.
This portal is built on the Ethereum blockchain, with source files located on the fast and secure Decentralized Interplanetary File System (IPFS). Payments are made in Ether. It is part of the district0x network which supports decentralized applications (DApps) for free.
Ethlance does not charge commission and is free for freelancers and clients. You can post unlimited gigs, apply for many jobs, and create multiple profiles based on different categories. However, you will pay Ethereum gas fees – a few cents, each time you make changes to the Ethlance database. Learn how to reduce Ethereum gas fees to save some coins.
Ethlance does not provide escrow protection or dispute resolution for non-delivery or non-payment.
You will need to install the MetaMask Chrome extension, which acts as a gateway to access this DApp and make changes to the network. You will also need to be registered with one of the cryptocurrency exchanges in the world to get paid.
CoinGigs operates as a regular freelance gig portal requiring users to register, post jobs, search and apply for gigs, and create freelance profiles. It also offers escrow protection to users to ensure secure transfer of work and money. The only difference is that freelancers are paid in Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash, which allows borderless payment transactions.
Originally designed to help Venezuelan workers earn money online, known as Venezuela Workers, it opened to a global audience in early 2021. It’s the easiest way to earn bitcoin online and does not require any knowledge of blockchain or cryptocurrency besides being registered with a coin exchange portal.
The portal is free and charges an 8% commission per gig. You can find gigs in various categories such as Lifestyle, Music & Audio, Video & Animation, and more, in addition to regular Programming & Tech, and Writing & Translating jobs.
Purse is an online shopping and discount portal that works in conjunction with Amazon. This is a niche gig portal that helps you make money by finding discount deals on Amazon. It brings together Amazon gift card collectors or crypto acquirers and shoppers looking to save on their purchases.
You have to buy orders on Amazon using your gift cards in exchange for bitcoin or bitcoin cash. Amazon customers with spare cryptocurrency place an order on Amazon with a custom discounted price. These orders are updated on the Purse portal. Purse winners can pick up any of these orders and pay for them with their gift cards.
Purse will track this transaction until the order is delivered and credit the payer with an equivalent amount in Bitcoin or Bitcoin cash. You can be both the buyer and the user fulfilling Amazon orders to earn Easy Bitcoins.
Cryptogigs is a simple portal that lists all job vacancies and service posts on one page. You must register with the portal to send messages to other users. It does not limit you to just one cryptocurrency, as you can earn in top cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, etc.
The platform is still in its infancy, and there is nothing more to do than to create your job or service offer, post it on the website and chat with clients. or potential freelancers. Other than bringing the two parties together, it doesn’t offer much in the way of payment protection, dispute resolution, or secure transactions.
You are responsible for ensuring that you get paid, as payments are not processed on the platform. It is looking to develop wallet services, but does not currently offer any.
Formerly known as Earn, this is another independent niche cryptocurrency income portal. It allows users to earn different cryptocurrencies based on their learning curve.
You have to watch videos and tutorials on various cryptocurrencies and how they work, then take quizzes that test your knowledge. The more you learn, the more you earn. Your Coinbase wallet is credited with a small amount of the cryptocurrency you learned based on your quiz score.
Unlike other portals, there are a limited number of opportunities to earn cryptocurrency through Coinbase Earn. You can only answer each quiz once and the payout varies by room. You need to know how to use Coinbase and manage a wallet to get paid.
