IIT Madras is accepting applications from students, professionals, and anyone interested in a free online course called Python for Data Science on the SWAYAM NPTEL platform. The course aims to enable participants to be able to use python programming to solve data science problems. The course might be more suitable for final year undergraduate students with a basic knowledge of data science algorithms.
The course will be led by Prof. Ragunathan Rengasamy who works at IIT Madras. Prior to joining the institute, Rengaswamy was Professor of Chemical Engineering and Co-Director of the Process Control and Optimization Consortium at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, USA. He was also Professor and Associate Professor at Clarkson University, USA, and Assistant Professor at IIT Bombay. Participants can also get a certificate for the course by paying Rs 1000 and passing an exam which will take place on September 26, 2021.
What will IIT Madras’ free online course on Python for Data Science cover?
The course will start on July 26, 2021 and run until August 20, 2021, and over 4 weeks the following topics will be covered:
- Python Spyder Basics (Tool).
- Sequence data types and associated operations.
- The Pandas dataframe and the dataframe operations on the Toyota Corolla dataset.
- Visualization of data on Toyoto Corolla dataset using matplotlib and seaborn libraries.
- Control structures using the Toyota Corolla dataset.
- Case Study: Regression – Predicting Used Car Prices, and Classification – Classifying Personal Income.
Important Details About IIT Madras Free Online Course on Python for Data Science
Participants interested in participating in the course should register on the official page by clicking on the Join button on the official site before August 2, 2021. Facebook, Google, Microsoft or SWAYAM accounts can be used to register on the platform. Participants will be eligible for a certificate only if the average score of the assignment is greater than or equal to 10/25 and the exam score is greater than or equal to 30/75. If one of the 2 criteria is not met, the participants will not obtain the certificate even if the final score is greater than or equal to 40/100. Only the electronic certificate with the logos of NPTEL and IIT Madras will be made available, and no hard copy will be sent.
