CANADA, January 28 – People now have access to two new online community planning tools, providing easy access to data-driven information and investment opportunities for communities across British Columbia
Available to the public and local governments, including municipalities and regional districts, the Community Information Tool and Community Investment Opportunities Tool provide central access points to community data, encouraging development economic and helping community planners and investment organizations thrive in the digital economy.

As part of the StrongerBC economic stimulus package, the Department of Citizen Services received $700,000 to develop the Community Information Tool, including industrial land data integration, which helps investors and planners identify vacant industrial land for investment opportunities. The Community Information Tool and Community Investment Opportunities Tool are part of a suite of data-driven planning tools being developed as part of StrongerBC to provide communities with accessible resources for economic and community growth.

Simple and accessible tools like these will allow our communities to grow stronger and grow, helping to spur economic recovery as we emerge from the pandemic together.
The Community Information Tool combines over 40 public datasets, including census information, Data BC, the British Columbia Data Catalog and industrial land information into one visual resource. The tool allows users to collect location-based data that they would typically need to search across multiple websites. Categories include population, median household income, labor force, key sectors and connectivity. Users can also discover ideas and patterns among BC communities by using search filters for specific characteristics, such as economic health, access to education and health care, connectivity , infrastructure or emergency management.
Powered by the same database, the Community Investment Opportunities Tool connects investors to industrial, commercial and agricultural properties available for investment across the province. Community representatives can post properties available for sale or rental to investors. Interested investors can search for available opportunities by filtering by various criteria.
The tools will help economic planners promote investment and plan infrastructure, helping to level the playing field for economic development between larger, well-resourced communities and smaller communities that may not have similar access to Marlet.
