A 40-year-old man went into solitary confinement with the gold adornments of a woman he had met on a marriage website. The 33-year-old’s family handed over the adornments to the “groom-to-be” when they met at her home to finalize the nuptials.
The girl’s family finally approached the police after waiting several months.
A first information report (FIR) in this regard was registered at the Chikhli police station under the rural jurisdiction of Pune. According to the complainant’s statement, the woman met the man on a marriage website in July 2021. The man impersonated a 40-year-old man from Solapur. As the two moved forward to get married, they decided to meet at the complainant’s home.
On August 27, the man came to meet the woman’s family in Pune and promised to marry her. The woman’s family gave her gold adornments including a chain, ring and silver, all of which were worth around Rs 1.7 lakh as a token to finalize the nuptials. The man was later placed in solitary confinement, however. After realizing that she had been cheated, the woman recently approached the police and an FIR was recorded.
Recently, following the arrest of a suspected Chennai crook for cheating on a woman from Chinchwad, investigation revealed that the man cheated over 100 women across India after contacting them via marriage websites and have defrauded them to the tune of crore rupees to date.
