A Tesla electric car, €15,000 in cash and a number of designer watches are among the assets seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau after searches in four counties today.
This morning’s CAB operation targeted an Eastern European organized crime group involved in laundering the proceeds of crime through the used car trade.
This gang is also involved in supplying cars to Irish organized crime groups across the country.
The searches – which involved more than 80 people – took place today at 15 sites in Kildare, Waterford, Laois and Dublin.
Assets seized in today’s search include a Tesla electric car, two BMW IX electric vehicles with 221 license plates, two Classic vehicles, €15,000 in cash and a number of high-value watches, including the Rolex and Cartier brands.
Today’s operation follows Criminal Assets Bureau search operations conducted in September and October 2021. During the search, CAB seized eighteen high-value vehicles, including Audi Q7s, BMW X5s , Range Rovers, a Jaguar I-Pace and a Tesla.
In a statement released by the CAB this afternoon, the operation was described as “significant in the context of the CAB’s entire proceeds of crime investigation targeting assets,” including properties accrued by the directors of the criminal group,
The search was carried out by officers from the office supported by the Dublin Armed Support Unit, Eastern Regional Armed Support Unit, Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit, Customs Dogs, Kildare Detective Unit, Portlaoise Detective Unit and detectives attached to the Dublin Metropolitan area.
The investigation is still ongoing.
