Arsenal are said to be one of five Premier League clubs interested in signing Gabigol from Flamengo – and a more cash player movement could work.
Gabigol, also known as Gabriel Barbosa, is on fire for Flamengo. But the Brazil international is now looking to leave the club in the January window.
This season, the 17-time international has scored 29 goals in 41 games. The season in Brazil is about to end on December 10, and a January move is ideal.
Flamengo wants £ 30million for the striker, according to 90Min. The report claims Arsenal, Villa, West Ham, Newcastle and Everton are all excited.
Arsenal fans have made it clear that they would like their club to land Gabigol. But do the Gunners really have an asset, to see their competition?
Trump card: Mari could prove crucial for Arsenal signing Gabigol …
Pablo Mari, 28, was a bad signing for Arsenal. Joining the club initially on loan in January 2020, he has since made just 22 appearances for the club.
At the moment, Mari is failing even to make it into Arsenal’s squad for the day. Ben White and Gabriel are first choice, with Rob Holding the first replacement.
The chances of him leaving in January are high. Flamengo, the club he played at 30 times before joining Arsenal, wants him to return.
This is according to Football London, who say the Gabigol team is interested in a loan. But surely that gives Arsenal the ideal player-plus-money deal.
Perhaps a fee of around £ 25million, plus Mari, would see Flamengo choose to accept Arsenal’s offer and reject the others – a plus.
